Musée Pointe-à-Callière: Alley-oop – An Interactive Adventure
The fascinating history of Montreal's back alleys
Alley-Oop invites kids and adults alike to explore Montreal's back alleys in a playful, immersive way. Designed as an interactive exhibition, the experience turns each passage into a playground through visual projections and motion detection. The visitors can move, jump, and test their agility across six themed interactive game stations.
[ The expo has been extended to January 10, 2027! ]
Summer: Colors
Winter: Hockey
Spring: Hungry caterpillars
Fall: Keep your leaf

Brief: a familiar place
Beyond the games, the exhibition uncovers the fascinating history of Montreal's back alleys, the witnesses to the city's urban and social evolution.

The architectural diversity of the buildings, the variety of fences, the vegetation shifting with the seasons, and the local wildlife were all brought to the forefront. The illustrations were designed to blend seamlessly into the scenography and its color palette.

On the main stage, the visual style combines flat color and texture play to recreate the welcoming, familiar feel of a Montreal back alley.
And beyond the main stage, 5 additional visual treatments were created for the pods of the extra game stations.

Illustration mockups were assembled in a 3D software to better understand the optical effects that create the illusion of one continuous alley, even though it was laid out across three walls.

Technical Direction
On the production side, the visuals were built in 3 layers: the first covers the floor and walls shared across all games. The second holds fixed elements that shift with the seasons: foliage, snow, animals. The third layer contains the gameplay elements, like the scoreboard.
Campaing rollout
We also produced a 15-second promotional animation in both horizontal and vertical formats for web and social media, rounding out a complete, cohesive campaign.
The project was developed in collaboration with the Pointe-à-Callière Museum and Electric Playhouse, combining expertise in illustration, animation, and interactive technology to deliver a one-of-a-kind educational and playful experience.
