The Word Clinic: Understanding Medical Language Made Easy

An Original Approach to Decoding Medical Jargon

The medical language can sometimes feel inaccessible, full of complex terms that are hard to understand. To tackle this challenge, the show “The Word Clinic”, hosted by Jessica Léveillée‑Lemay, offers a fresh approach: using etymology as a key to better understand medical words. By tracing the origin and meaning of each term, she helps the general public decode medical vocabulary more easily and gain a deeper grasp of health‑related knowledge.

Brief: A strong visual identity for educational capsules

For this project, we were tasked with creating a strong, cohesive visual identity and producing the full graphic package for twenty educational capsules. Each video tackled a specific theme related to the human body and health: ranging from heart and kidneys to mental well‑being, the immune system, and several other essential aspects.

Art direction and creative universe

The creative direction aimed to craft a visual package that was both accessible and playful, yet inviting. Graphic shapes with bold outlines evoked medical iconography, while textures and grain added warmth and humanity. The primary palette, combined with illustrated 3D elements, created a cohesive, friendly, and engaging visual universe.

Visuel identity and typography

The chosen typography leaned on a linear, characterful typeface. The design echoed the “word box” concept used in the capsules while subtly referencing the medical world with a light nod to pills. The result stays serious yet remains playful and welcoming.
